Spiritborn Eagle Guide: Abilities and Builds

In this Diablo 4 Spiritborn Eagle guide, we’ll break down its playstyle, abilities, and potential builds.

The Eagle is one of the four Spirit Guardian animals (the others being Jaguar, Gorilla, and Centipede).

All four will be playable with the Spiritborn class that will be added with the release of the Vessel of Hatred expansion.

What are the Spirit Guardians?

If you’re familiar with the Druid in Diablo 4, imagine spirit boons taken to the next level. For everyone else, these spirits imbue your character with potent passives. They also grant access to unique skills: some boost attack speed for escalating damage, others deal damage over time with a wicked poison, and a few even enable a pseudo-ranged playstyle for the Spiritborn.

Spirits also imbue your skills with their specific tags. For example, much like the Claw skill is marked as a “Werewolf skill,” channeling the Eagle spirit adds the “Eagle” tag to all your abilities. The thrilling part is that you can have two spirits active at the same time. This offers vast potential for build diversity, unique combinations, and gear customization. It’s truly a playground for theory crafters!

The Spiritborn Eagle Playstyle

With lethal precision and supreme agility, the Eagle Spirit Guardian empowers you with devastating mid-range attacks, allows you to traverse the environment like no other, and keeps you safe from harm with buckets of dodge.

Selecting the Eagle as your primary Guardian spirit will grant you a powerful passive that will summon two storm feathers anytime you use an Eagle skill (all of your skills are Eagle skills).

You can have a maximum of 8 by default, these feathers are then fired at enemies when you dodge, dealing huge damage and even making enemies vulnerable!

Access to a constant source of passive vulnerability? Yes, please! It’s a common theme with Eagle skills – no longer will you be agonizing over how to maintain this juicy DPS booster.

Like an Eagle your attacks hit with pinpoint precision, exposing enemies weak points with many skills having increased critical chance and damage, you’ll also be able to keep enemies at a distance with medium ranged attacks, and when things get too spicy be able to retreat safely with incredible mobility.

Spiritborn Eagle Skills

• Thunderspike (Basic): Quickly jab forward with a piercing strike dealing 15% damage. Your 3rd attack pierces further, dealing 23% damage and reducing your Evade Cooldown by 5 seconds.
• Quill Volley (Core): Hurl 5 feathers that pierce through enemies, each dealing 14% damage.
• Vortex (Focus): Create a cyclone that Pulls enemies inward, followed by a crushing downdraft that deals 35% damage to them.
• Razor Wings (Potency): Whirl out a cluster of razor-sharp feathers that rebound back, dealing 50% damage each way.
• The Seeker (Ultimate): The Eagle Spirit swoops down and deals 20% damage. After a short delay it blasts off dealing 300% damage.

Animals Pairings and Spiritborn Eagle Build Ideas

An exciting and unique prospect of the Spiritborn is the many combinations of Spirit Guardians available. The Eagle combination I’m excited about most is Eagle + Jaguar.

This is a no-compromise DPS combination with that same focus on attack speed from Jaguar with the addition of the high crit and incredible mobility of Eagle.

This is the kind of combination that providing you don’t get one shot can turn enemies into puddles of gore in little to no time.

Having Jaguar as a secondary Spirit Guardian will have you generating Ferocity every time you kill an enemy, ramping your attack speed and by extension, DPS. Many Jaguar skills will generate ferocity too.

Eagle skills can then dish out damage and the mobility it offers can make sure you’re getting from one enemy pack to the other in the blink of an eye!

One exciting pairing of the Spirits would be that of the primary spirit passive with Counterattack, Counterattack provides a passive 20% dodge in addition to 100% dodge active for 2 seconds, and that’s just the base skill!

The Eagle passive will then shoot stored Storm Feathers at enemies every time you dodge. Storm Feathers are stored every time you use an Eagle skill and thanks to the ramping attack speed given to us by the Jaguar passives and skills, it’ll be a breeze to generate an absolute ton of these!

Other pairings that could yield some interesting results would be, Eagle + Eagle, doubling down on everything this class does well and then some, with the secondary spirit passive juicing our critical hit chance for every four meters you move.

There could also be some interesting interaction between Eagle + Centipede, applying poison to enemies and siphoning life, this could potentially add a fantastic way to sustain through those tougher enemies and introduce ramping poison damage to help get rid of those more resilient enemies!
