What are the Spirit Guardians?
If you know the Druid in Diablo 4, picture spirit boons supercharged. For those less acquainted, these spirits bestow your character with powerful passives. They also unlock unique abilities: some increase attack speed for ramped-up damage, others apply damage over time with a deadly poison, and some even let you adopt a pseudo-ranged playstyle with the Spiritborn.
Spirits imbue your skills with their respective tags. Just like how the Claw skill is tagged as a “Werewolf skill,” adopting the Centipede spirit adds the “Centipede” tag to all your skills. The exciting aspect is that you can activate two spirits at once, opening up vast possibilities for build diversity, unique combinations, and gear optimization. It’s truly a theory crafter’s dream!
The Spiritborn Centipede Playstyle
Drain the very life force from your enemies, making their strength your own! Vicious poisons and debilitating afflictions disable your enemies and melt their vitality away until nothing is left.
Selecting the Centipede as your primary Guardian spirit will grant you a powerful passive that causes your attacks to apply a debuff that reduces the damage enemies deal by 2.5% and slows their movement by 10% per stack, this debuff can stack up to 8 times.
The Centipede is chock full of skills that further reduce the enemy’s potency, and simultaneously stacking massive amounts of damage over time that’ll leave enemies reduced to nothing but puddles of green goo.
All the while sustaining yourself on their lifeforce with multiple skills and passives that steal health from enemies afflicted with your poisons!

Animals Pairings and Spiritborn Centipede Build Ideas
An exciting and unique prospect of the Spiritborn is the many combinations of spirit guardians available, One combination I’m excited about would be Centipede + Jaguar. Having Centipede as our main Spirit Guardian will give us a ton of damage reduction which gives us the lean-way to go straight for DPS with our second choice.
Which is exactly what Jaguar is, when this is your secondary Spirit you’ll generate stacks of ferocity every time you kill an enemy or hit a boss, Ferocity is a stacking attack speed buff and with faster attacks you’ll be able to absolutely pile on the poison damage, melting everything in your path.
One exciting pairing of skills between these Guardian Spirits is firstly Touch of Death, a vicious poison damage over time skill and an excellent opening skill, but here’s where it gets fun, when the poison expires or the enemy dies we get a living bomb effect.
This means the effect explodes onto nearby enemies spreading the poison.
In any situation where you wade through tons of enemies (which is most of the time) Touch of Death can spread extremely fast throughout massive packs of enemies.
And then Rake, for incredible AoE clear potential. Adding in another explosion-type attack, the two together should result in some impressive damage output on larger groups of enemies. I can’t wait to test this combo out!
Other exciting pairings you could consider would be Centipede + Gorilla for a seriously tanky setup, of course you have all of that damage reduction and healing from the Centipede but now with some serious bolstering in those departments with barrier generation, resolve and crowd control from the Gorilla. If you’re looking to become an unkillable menace then this is a pairing you should definitely take a look out
Perhaps the most obvious pairing but undeniably a powerful pairing would be double Centipede, going full blast into poison damage with all of the nasty debuffs and the tasty lifesteal. Centipede looks to be one of the most rounded individual spirits with both excellent offence and defence, for the purest or the player that enjoys a visual spectacle this’ll be a setup to keep an eye on.
