Rin Tohsaka: Guide, Skills, Builds, Teams & More
Rin Tohsaka is a Quantum Erudition sub-Damage Dealer released in Patch 4.4 as part of the Fate/Stay Night collaboration event. Originally the Master of Archer in Fate/Stay Night, Rin is designed as a sub-Damage Dealer built specifically for the Archer team, featuring a unique Joint Attack that can only be triggered when they are fielded together, as well as buffs exclusive to Archer. That said, Rin can also function as a main Damage Dealer without Archer, though the two are best played together.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Release Date
Rin Tohsaka’s banner will begin during the first half of Version 4.4 and will remain available throughout the entirety of the collaboration event, with no end date announced at this time. Pity is shared across collab banners but is independent of both Limited and Standard banner pity.
Rin Tohsaka HSR Kit Overview (Trace Level 10)
Gem Magecraft & Skill Points
Rin Tohsaka’s primary mechanic is Gem Magecraft, which is tied directly to the team’s Skill Point consumption and recovery. She gains 30 Gem Energy at the start of battle (10 of which comes from her Technique) and 12 Gem Energy every time she uses her Ultimate. Whenever an ally consumes or recovers Skill Points, Rin increases their Crit Damage by 70% for 2 turns and gains 1 Gem Energy for each Skill Point consumed or recovered. While Rin is in the party, she also raises the team’s Skill Point limit by 2.
Under normal circumstances, Rin’s Skill is a straightforward single-target attack. However, if she has 15 or more Gem Energy, or if the team currently holds 7 or more Skill Points, she can use the enhanced version called Second Magic Experiment — a powerful AoE attack that consumes Gem Energy to deal increased damage.
Every 3 Gem Energy consumed deals one instance of damage equal to 90% of Rin’s ATK, repeating up to a maximum of 33 times or until she runs out of Gem Energy or all enemies are defeated. If Rin uses this Enhanced Skill while the team has more than 2 Skill Points, she will consume all excess Skill Points down to 2, with each Skill Point consumed granting her 2 Gem Energy.
Rin’s Ultimate — An Gal Ta Ki Gal Šè — is a nuke that deals heavy single-target damage to one enemy and AoE damage to all remaining targets. Upon use, Rin recovers 1 Skill Point for the team and increases all enemies’ DMG Taken by 20% for 3 turns.
Archer Synergy & Joint Attack
The remaining portion of Rin’s kit revolves heavily around Archer. While Archer is on the team, Rin gains a unique Joint Attack mechanic called Freeform Tohsaka Style. After Archer uses his Skill to attack, this Joint Attack will trigger if there are 3 or fewer Skill Points remaining, or if Archer has used his Skill actively 5 times during his Circuit Connection state.
When triggered, it deals damage to all enemies based on both Rin’s and Archer’s ATK, then recovers 4 Skill Points afterward. This Joint Attack can trigger once per Rin’s turn and resets when Rin ends her turn.
Upon entering battle, Rin increases her own ATK by 150% and Quantum Res Pen by 15%. If Archer is on the team, he will also receive these buffs, effectively making Rin an additional amplifier for Archer when the pair is fielded together. Finally, Rin increases her Speed by 20% for 3 turns at the start of battle and again each time she uses her Enhanced Skill.
Gameplay Evaluation
Rin is quite clearly tailor-made to be played alongside Archer. She raises the team’s Skill Point limit, massively buffs Archer, deals solid damage in her own right, and even shares a unique Joint Attack with him. Her kit also flows seamlessly with Archer’s other best-in-slot Support — Sparkle — and the trio forms a formidable core that further extends Archer’s longevity. Rin’s AoE attacks also complement Archer greatly in content with large numbers of weaker enemies, allowing him to focus his firepower on a single primary target while Rin handles the remaining stragglers.
Outside of the Archer team, Rin can also be played as a hypercarry, though this forgoes her Joint Attack mechanic entirely. This playstyle heavily benefits from having Cerydra on the team, as she can duplicate Rin’s Enhanced Skill, setting up a massive burst turn once enough Gem Energy has been accumulated.
Outside of these two scenarios, Rin has relatively limited application. While she can be played alongside other Skill Point-hungry Damage Dealers, the tradeoff is significantly worse than simply running another hypercarry Support in her place, as she lacks the ability to buff them the way she does for Archer.
Rin Tohsaka HSR Core Skills

Basic Attack – Bajiquan: Deals Fire DMG equal to 100% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to one enemy.

Skill – Jeweled Sword Zelretch: Deals Quantum DMG equal to 180% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to one designated enemy target.
Enhanced Skill – Second Magic Experiment: Deals Quantum DMG equal to 90% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to all enemies. Then, consumes 3 point(s) of “Gem Energy” to deal additional Quantum DMG equal to 90% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to one random enemy target. This repeats until “Gem Energy” is less than 3 or there are no enemy targets with current HP greater than 0, up to a maximum of 33 time(s). When used, if current Skill Points are greater than 2, consumes Skill Points until there are 2 point(s) left, immediately gaining 2 point(s) of “Gem Energy” for every 1 Skill Point consumed.

Ultimate – An Gal Ta Ki Gal Šè: Deals Quantum DMG equal to 600% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to one designated enemy, and Quantum DMG equal to 200% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK to other enemy targets. When used, recovers 1 Skill Point(s) for allies, and increases the DMG taken by all enemies by 20% for 3 turn(s).

Talent – Gem Magecraft: When entering combat, gains 20 “Gem Energy.” When an ally target consumes or recovers Skill Points, increases their CRIT DMG by 70% for 2 turn(s). For every 1 Skill Point consumed or recovered, Rin Tohsaka gains 1 “Gem Energy.” If Rin Tohsaka possesses 15 or more “Gem Energy” or if current Skill Points are 7 or more, her Skill is enhanced into “Second Magic Experiment.”
Joint Attack – Freeform Tohsaka Style: After Archer uses his Skill “Caladbolg II: Fake Spiral Sword” to attack, if there are 3 or fewer Skill Point(s) remaining or if “Caladbolg II: Fake Spiral Sword” has been actively used 5 times during the current “Circuit Connection” state, and the Joint Follow-Up ATK from “Freeform Tohsaka Style” has not been triggered, Rin Tohsaka and Archer will launch a Joint Follow-Up ATK on all enemies, dealing Quantum DMG equal to 300% of Rin Tohsaka’s ATK and 300% of Archer’s ATK respectively, and recovering 4 Skill Point(s) for allies. This Joint Follow-Up ATK can only trigger once. The trigger count resets when Rin Tohsaka’s turn ends.

Technique – Conversion Charge: After using the Technique, gains 10 point(s) of “Gem Energy” at the start of the next combat.
Rin Tohsaka HSR Traces

Elegant Conduct: When Rin Tohsaka is on the field, additionally increases the max number of Skill Points by 2. When entering combat, Rin Tohsaka’s ATK increases by 150%, and Quantum RES PEN increases by 15%. If Archer is in the team, Archer also gains this effect.

Ladylike Poise: When entering combat and after using Enhanced Skill, Rin Tohsaka’s SPD increases by 20%, lasting for 3 turn(s).

Inbound Prosperity: When Rin Tohsaka uses her Ultimate, she gains 12 point(s) of “Gem Energy.”
Rin Tohsaka HSR Eidolons

- Zelretch’s Apprentice: If the amount of “Gem Energy” consumed by a single Enhanced Skill is 30 or more, Rin Tohsaka gains “Shadow Gem” equal to the amount of “Gem Energy” consumed. While possessing “Shadow Gem,” Skill is enhanced to “Second Magic Experiment.” The Enhanced Skill consumes all “Shadow Gem,” does not trigger the effect of converting Skill Points into “Gem Energy,” and does not consume “Gem Energy.”
- Dimensional Traveler: Increases Rin Tohsaka’s Skill DMG by 30%. While Rin Tohsaka is on the field, Skill DMG dealt by all allies becomes 130% of the original DMG.
- Holy Grail War: Victory Memorial: Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic Attack Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
- Red Devil: Triple Speed: When the CRIT DMG boost effect from Talent “Gem Magecraft” takes effect on Rin Tohsaka, the effect can stack up to 2 time(s).
- To Cross the Cosmos and Beyond: Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
- Nailed It This Time!: Rin Tohsaka’s All-Type RES PEN increases by 20%. When using Ultimate, gains 24 point(s) of “Gem Energy” and 1 extra turn.
Eidolon Priority
Rin’s Eidolons are strong, but nothing game breaking, and she functions well enough with limited vertical investment — preserving the identity of the Archer team as a highly F2P-friendly meta team.
E1 essentially provides a full refund of all Gem Energy spent if Rin uses an Enhanced Skill at 30 or more Gem Energy, granting her an equal amount of Shadow Gem. These Shadow Gems can then be used for her next Enhanced Skill, which will draw exclusively from Shadow Gem for that attack. This is Rin best early Eidolon and massively improves her damage output, especially when played as a hypercarry.
E2 increases Rin’s own Skill DMG by 30% and causes all allies’ Skills to deal 30% more damage as a final undiluted modifier — a powerful boost to both Rin’s and Archer’s overall damage output.
E4 allows her Talent’s Crit Damage buff to stack up to 2 times, effectively doubling it from 70% to 140% Crit Damage.
E6 increases her All-Type Res Pen by an additional 20%, and upon using her Ultimate, she immediately gains 24 Gem Energy and takes an extra turn. While expensive to reach, this Eidolon fully realizes Rin’s potential as a hypercarry.
In terms of investment, Rin already provides a strong enough upgrade to Archer at E0S0, but players who love the duo can consider going for E1S1 Rin after securing Archer’s E1 for more consistent performance across all content. Players who wish to utilize Rin as a hypercarry in the long run may consider investing all the way to E6.

Premium Options

Flickering Stars: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18%. When any ally character consumes a total of 4 or more Skill Points in a single turn, the wearer gains “Radiant Crown,” lasting for 3 turn(s). While the wearer has “Radiant Crown,” all allies’ DMG ignores 20% of the target’s DEF, and Skill DMG dealt by the wearer increases by 60%. Effects of the same type cannot stack.
Rin’s Signature Light Cone combines personal damage and teamwide utility into one, granting her 18% Crit Rate and a 60% Skill DMG boost, while also increasing the team’s overall damage output through 20% DEF Ignore. That said, if players already have a strong alternative, this Light Cone is quite skippable, as it does not meaningfully alter her rotation or playstyle, and should be a lower priority compared to her Eidolons.

Into the Unreachable Veil: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 12%. When the wearer uses their Ultimate, increases the wearer’s Skill DMG and Ultimate DMG dealt by 60%, lasting for 3 turn(s). After the wearer uses their Ultimate, if this Ultimate consumed 140 or more Energy, recovers 1 Skill Point.
This Light Cone is an exceptional alternative to Rin’s Signature Light Cone for players who already own it. It provides solid personal damage boosts in the form of Crit Rate, Ultimate DMG, and Skill DMG%. It also refunds an additional Skill Point, making it even more desirable when Rin is paired with Archer as a sub-Damage Dealer.
F2P Options

Eternal Calculus: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 8%. After using an attack, for each enemy target hit, additionally increases ATK by 4%. This effect can stack up to 5 times and last until the next attack. If there are 3 or more enemy targets hit, this unit’s SPD increases by 8%, lasting for 1 turn(s).
A solid stat stick that Rin can make good use of, as both ATK and Speed are beneficial stats for her.

The Seriousness of Breakfast: Increases the wearer’s DMG by 12%. For every enemy defeated by the wearer, the wearer’s ATK increases by 4%, stacking up to 3 time(s).
A solid F2P option that provides respectable boosts for Rin until players can acquire better alternatives.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Main Stats
- Body: Crit Rate >> Crit Damage
- Feet: Attack% > Speed
- Orb: Quantum Damage / Attack%
- Rope: Attack%
Rin should be built to maximize her personal damage output, even when serving as a Support for Archer, as her individual damage contribution is quite significant.
Since Rin’s kit lacks Crit Rate while providing ample Crit Damage, players should prioritize a Crit Rate Body piece for her.
For Boots, as Rin already has a built-in Speed boost in her kit, ATK Boots are the optimal choice for damage output. Speed Boots remain a viable alternative for players looking to maximize her turn count or hit a specific Speed breakpoint, particularly when the team already provides sufficient ATK buffs.
For her Orb, both Quantum DMG% and ATK% are viable options.
Similarly, an ATK% Rope is preferred to further improve her damage output.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Sub Stats
- Crit Rate
- Crit Damage
- Attack% / Speed
Prioritize Crit Rate until reaching 100% in combat, then shift focus toward Crit Damage and ATK%.
With her built-in Speed boost, Rin only needs around 12 additional Speed from substats to reach the 134 Speed threshold, so a modest amount of Speed substats is worthwhile for players targeting this breakpoint. Other breakpoints exist for specific setups — such as using Sparkle to alternately action advance Rin and Archer, ensuring Rin’s Joint Attack is always available before Archer executes his arrow volley — but these are highly dependent on individual team compositions and turn order configurations.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Relics
Option A

Scholar Lost in Erudition
- 2-Pc: Increases CRIT Rate by 8%.
- 4-Pc: Increases DMG dealt by Skill and Ultimate by 20%. After using Ultimate, additionally increases the DMG dealt by the next Skill by 25%.
This set should be Rin’s best-in-slot option. Crit Rate is especially valuable for her, as players cannot afford to miss crits during her Enhanced Skill and Ultimate, and her kit provides no Crit Rate boost of its own. Both Skill DMG% and Ultimate DMG% are also highly valuable, with Skill DMG% in particular being a standout bonus.
Option B

Wavestrider Captain
- 2-Pc: Increases Quantum DMG by 10%.
- 4-Pc: When the wearer deals DMG to the target enemy, ignores 10% DEF. If the target enemy has Quantum Weakness, the wearer additionally ignores 10% DEF.
As a Quantum Damage Dealer, Rin is a natural fit for this set. The Archer team also tends to have access to a significant amount of DEF Shred and DEF Ignore effects, as well as Quantum Weakness implanting via Archer’s E2 or Silver Wolf, making the set’s second effect very easy to take advantage of.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Planar Sets
Option A

Rutilant Arena
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current CRIT Rate reaches 70% or higher, DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill increases by 20%.
This set offers both Crit Rate and Skill Damage%, which are unconditionally great for Rin.
Option B

Tengoku@Livestream
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 16%. If 3 or more Skill Points are consumed in the same turn, additionally increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 32%, lasting for 3 turns
In both Archer team as well as Rin hypercarry team, the condition of this set is easily fulfilled, meaning she will get a permanent 48% Crit Damage boost regardless.
HSR Rin Tohsaka Teammates
Rin can be played in two ways: either as Archer’s partner or as a hypercarry in her own right. Most of the units she works well with are a natural fit in both team compositions.
Main DPS

Archer: Archer is by far Rin Tohsaka’s best teammate. Rin provides a monstrous amount of buffs to Archer while generating a large number of Skill Points through her Ultimate and Joint Attack to fuel his onslaught, all while dealing very notable damage herself. Any Archer player should absolutely have Rin on the team.
Amplifiers

Sparkle: Sparkle has incredible synergy with both Archer and Rin. Her Ultimate can grant Rin a large amount of Gem Energy, and her powerful offensive buffs benefit both hypercarries while fueling their Skill Point consumption. In an Archer team, players can also alternate Sparkle’s action advance between Archer and Rin to keep their Joint Attack consistently available, while also maximizing the value of her buffs when either Archer or Rin unleashes their burst.

Cerydra: Cerydra can duplicate either Archer’s or Rin’s Skill. She is considerably more potent alongside hypercarry Rin, setting up massive burst turns with a double Enhanced Skill, though she also serves as a strong Support for Archer.

Robin: Both Archer and Rin benefit greatly from Robin’s teamwide ATK boost and action advance. With the right setup, players can activate Robin’s Ultimate during Archer’s volley to immediately unleash a burst of 10 arrows and 2 Joint Attacks, thanks to how Archer’s turn interacts with Robin’s action advance. You said: Cerydra can duplicate either Archer or Rin’s skill.

Mortenax Blade / Tribbie: Mortenax Blade and Tribbie are great fits for the Archer team, which benefits greatly from teamwide damage amplification given how much individual damage both Archer and Rin can output on their own.
Sustain

Dan Heng – Permansor Terrae: Dan Heng – Permansor Terrae is Archer’s best-in-slot sustain, providing a large amount of ATK buffs, triggering Archer’s follow-up attacks, and being highly Skill Point positive.

Huohuo: Huohuo provides a teamwide ATK boost and Energy generation, both of which are highly valuable to Archer and Rin.

HSR Rin Tohsaka Pull Value and Conclusion
Rin Tohsaka is a very significant upgrade for Archer, allowing him to remain meta-relevant for a considerably longer period. Even at E0S0, Rin should show a notable improvement to the team’s overall operation and damage output, and any player looking to continue playing Archer should strongly consider pulling for her.
As a hypercarry, Rin Tohsaka will require some vertical investment in her Eidolons to compete with top-tier team archetypes such as the Ashveil/Blade duo or Elation teams. This route is recommended only for dedicated Rin Tohsaka enthusiasts, as while she is a capable carry, she is unlikely to receive future upgrades the way other limited units typically do.
That said, since Rin Tohsaka’s banner will be available for an extended period, players are not pressured to commit within a limited timeframe and can take their time before making a pulling decision.
