Yunli HSR – Guide, Skills, Builds, Teams & More

Table of contents

Yunli is a Physical Ultimate / Counter-focus damage dealer with exceptional damage output and versatility. She is the quintessential hyper-carry DPS of the 2.x patch that can perform well in almost all end-game modes, especially Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and any Simulated / Divergent Universe modes. Her damage profile allows her to take advantage of numerous blessings and can synergize with a lot of different support units/damage dealers, making her one of the best DPS for new players but still holding up extremely well with investments.

Yunli HSR Kit Overview (Trace Level 10)

Yunli draws a lot of comparisons to her fellow Physical Destruction unit – Clara due to their similarity in class, element, and playstyle. Upon being attacked by enemies, they both immediately launch a Counter to the attacker. In Yunli’s case, this counter is a Blast attack and will generate an additional 15 Energy. Furthermore, Yunli will still launch the counter onto another target if the original target dies before she counters, something that Clara does not have.

The majority of Yunli’s damage, however, comes from her Ultimate. This Ultimate is a powerful counter with two different variants: “Intuit: Slash” and “Intuit: Cull”. Upon using it, Yunli will enter into a Parry state which lasts until the next unit’s action, taunting every enemy on the field, increasing her next Counter’s Critical Damage by 100%, resisting all Crowd Control, and gaining 20% Damage Reduction. If she gets hit immediately after by an enemy, she will launch the stronger counter – Intuit: Cult, which consists of one Blast attack to the primary attacker and 6 random Bounce attacks with a total of a massive 652% Multiplier Value. If nothing hits Yunli right after she uses it, she will launch the weaker Counter – Intuit: Slash instead which only has the Blast attack.

After Yunli uses an Intuit: Slash, her next Intuit: Slash will automatically be converted into an Intuit: Cull thanks to one of her major traces, and this pity will not be consumed if she gets an Intuit: Cull by timing the Ultimate right. When Yunli launches either Intuit: Cull or Intuit: Slash, they are considered as both Ultimate and Follow-up Attack, which is extremely important in the end-game context, as she will be able to benefit from both Ultimate and Follow-up Attack-related effects and blessings.

Yunli’s gameplay revolves mainly around getting access to her Ultimate as much as possible, preferably right before an enemy is about to attack so that she will use Intuit: Cull. It is very similar to a Quick-Time Event in an action game, giving her a lot of agency, especially against enemies with high attack frequency. Her Ultimate only costs 120 Energy, but she has a 240 Energy cap, which lets her store up her Ultimate and only use it at the right time. However, Yunli is not completely reliant on the enemy’s aggro as her predecessor Clara thanks to her ability to still force a big counter with her trace even if the enemies do not attack, and she functions a lot more similarly to the other Physical DPS – Argenti as an Energy-based DPS instead. She still loves fighting highly aggressive enemies as it means more energy for her to spam her Ultimates.

Yunli’s skill is a Blast attack that heals her for a significant amount. While this skill does not do a lot of damage, on-demand healing on a skill is very rare for a DPS. This skill serves two purposes, to generate energy for Yunli and to upkeep her healing without being too reliant on a sustain unit. In many fights that do not have a lot of AOE damage, Yunli can even function as a sustain for other DPS, a trait that no other DPS can do as of right now.

The rest of Yunli’s kit is not particularly interesting. Her technique is a self-buff that lets her immediately launch an Intuit: Cull at the start of the battle with an 80% damage boost on it, but this attack will be unbuffed by her teammate so in practice the damage is not that significant. Her last major trace gives her a 30% Attack buff for 1 turn whenever she launches a counter.

Yunli HSR Core Skills

Basic Attack – Galespin Summersault: Deals Physical Damage equal to 100% of Yunli’s ATK to a single target enemy.

Skill – Bladeborne Quake: Restores HP equal to 30% of Yunli’s ATK plus 200. Deals Physical Damage equal to 120% of Yunli’s ATK to a single target enemy and Physical Damage equal to 60% of Yunli’s ATK to adjacent targets.

Ultimate – Earthbind, Etherbreakl: Consumes 120 Energy. Yunli gains Parry and Taunts all enemies, lasting until the end of the next ally’s or enemy’s turn. Increases the Critical Damage dealt by Yunli’s next Counter by 100%. When triggering the Counter effect from Talent, launches the Counter “Intuit: Cull” instead and removes the Parry effect. If no Counter is triggered while Parry is active, Yunli will immediately launch the Counter “Intuit: Slash” on a random enemy target.

“Intuit: Slash”: Deals Physical Damage equal to 220% of Yunli’s ATK to the target, and deals Physical Damage equal to 110% of Yunli’s ATK to adjacent targets.

“Intuit: Cull”: Deals Physical Damage equal to 220% of Yunli’s ATK to the target, and deals Physical Damage equal to 110% of Yunli’s ATK to adjacent targets. Then, additionally deals 6 instances of Damage, each dealing Physical Damage equal to 72% of Yunli’s ATK to a random single enemy.

When Yunli deals Damage via this ability, it’s considered as dealing Ultimate Damage.

Each instance of Intuit: Cull’s bounce Damage deals 25% of the Toughness reduction Damage of this skill’s central target Damage.

Talent – Flashforge: When Yunli gets attacked by an enemy target, additionally regenerates 15 Energy and immediately launches a Counter on the attacker, dealing Physical Damage equal to 120% of Yunli’s ATK to the attacker and Physical Damage equal to 60% of Yunli’s ATK to adjacent targets.

If there is no immediate target to Counter, then Counters a random enemy target instead.

Technique – Posterior Precedence: This unit gains the Ward effect, lasting for 20 seconds. During this time, upon entering combat by either attacking enemies or receiving an attack, immediately casts “Intuit: Cull” on a random enemy, and increases the Damage dealt by this attack by 80%.

Yunli HSR Traces

Fiery Wheel: After each use of “Intuit: Slash,” the next “Intuit: Slash” will be replaced by “Intuit: Cull.”

Demon Quell

Demon Quell: While in the “Parry” state, resists Crowd Control debuffs received and reduces Damage received by 20%.

True Sunder

True Sunder: When using a Counter, increases Yunli’s ATK by 30%, lasting for 1 turn.

Yunli HSR Eidolons

Yunli HSR Artwork

Weathered Blade Does Not Sully: Increases Damage dealt by “Intuit: Slash” and “Intuit: Cull” by 20%. Increases the number of additional Damage instances for “Intuit: Cull” by 3.

  1. First Luster Breaks Dawn: When dealing Damage via Counter, ignores 20% of the target’s DEF.
  2. Mastlength Twirls Mountweight: Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
  3. Artisan’s Ironsong: After launching “Intuit: Slash” or “Intuit: Cull,” increases this unit’s Effect RES by 50%, lasting for 1 turn.
  4. Blade of Old Outlasts All: Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
  5. Walk in Blade, Talk in Zither: While “Parry” is active, if an enemy actively uses their abilities, regardless of whether it attacks Yunli or not, it will trigger “Intuit: Cull” and remove the “Parry” effect. When dealing Damage via “Intuit: Slash” or “Intuit: Cull,” increases Critical Rate by 15% and Physical RES PEN by 20%.

Eidolon Priority

Yunli’s Eidolon 1 is exceptionally strong, especially in a Single Target situation. It turns her Intuit: Cull from a 652% Multiplier Value against a single target into 850% Multiplier Value instead, which is even higher than some of the strongest Single Target Ultimate in the game (such as Feixiao’s at 700% MV). This Eidolon is worth chasing if one wants to further vertically invest into Yunli, as its overall increase in her performance is worth around 25-40% DPS increase depending on the enemy’s layout, which is even bigger than her Signature Light Cone and most DPS’s Eidolon 1.

However, her subsequent Eidolons are very lackluster, except for E6. Her E2 is just a flat 20% Def Ignore when countering, which is roughly just a 10-12% DPS increase on its own. Its value is only justified when Yunli is used with other sources of Def Shred, such as Ruan Mei E1 or Sparkle E2. Outside of that, it is not that bad of an Eidolon but not a high-value one.

Her E4 is entirely useless in practice and only serves as a placeholder until her E6, which is both a massive DPS increase and a QoL change. Essentially, her E6 allows her to launch Intuit: Cull even when the enemy moving right after her does not attack, which is both a strong net DPS increase and lets her fare much better against non-attacking enemies.

  • Eidolon 1: Very High
  • Eidolon 2: Medium
  • Eidolon 4: Very Low
  • Eidolon 6: Very High

HSR Yunli Light Cones

Premium Options

Dance At Sun Set

Dance At Sun Set: Greatly increases the wearer’s chance of getting attacked and increases Critical Damage by 36% / 42% / 48% / 54% / 60%. After the wearer uses Ultimate, receives 1 stack of Firedance, lasting for 2 turns and stacking up to 2 times. Each stack of Firedance increases the Damage dealt by the wearer’s follow-up attack by 36% / 42% / 48% / 54% / 60%.

Yunli’s Signature Light Cone is her best option by a wide margin. The main value from this Light Cone is, unironically, not from the hidden 500% increased aggro since Yunli does not depend that much on Aggro to deal damage. While it is true that more aggro does help her since it is essentially more energy, the increased aggro most of the time only makes a significant difference in content with a lot of enemies, such as Pure Fiction.

The real meat of this Light Cone is the significant Damage boost to her follow-up attack that no other Light Cone comes close to.

Brighter Than the Sun

Brighter Than the Sun: Increases the wearer’s Critical Rate by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30%. When the wearer uses their Basic ATK, they will gain 1 stack of Dragon’s Call, lasting for 2 turns. Each stack of Dragon’s Call increases the wearer’s ATK by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30% and Energy Regeneration Rate by 6% / 7% / 8% / 9% / 10%. Dragon’s Call can be stacked up to 2 times.

This LC is a very interesting option for Yunli since it gives a really strong stats boost in the form of Critical Rate, Energy Regeneration Rate, and Attack, all are highly valuable to Yunli. To maintain Dragon’s Call stacks, however, Yunli will have to adopt a Basic -> Skill -> Basic -> Skill rotation.

A Secret Vow

Secret Vow: Increases Damage dealt by the wearer by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%. The wearer also deals an extra 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% of Damage to enemies whose current HP percentage is equal to or higher than the wearer’s current HP percentage.

At SuperImposition 5, this Light Cone offers a good damage boost to Yunli. Since she gets hits a lot more often than not, the secondary damage boost will also be a lot more frequently applied than when this Light Cone is used with another DPS.

F2P Options

On the Fall of an Aeon

On the Fall of an Aeon: When the wearer attacks, increase their ATK by 8% / 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% in this battle. This effect can stack up to 4 times. After the wearer breaks an enemy’s Weakness, increases Damage dealt by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24% , lasting for 2 turns.

Aeon is a good F2P option due to the high amount of raw stats boost it provides, however, Yunli might have to share with multiple other Destruction DPS that like this Light Cone.

HSR Yunli Main Stats

  • Body: Critical Rate% / Critical Damage%
  • Feet: Attack%
  • Orb: Attack% / Physical Damage%
  • Rope: Attack% >> Energy Regeneration Rate

Her main means of DPS is via her counters and ultimate, thus Speed does not have a high value for her, resulting in Attack% Boot as the best option for Yunli. Even when Yunli wants to move more often to heal with her skill, it is more efficient to have other teammates advance her instead.

For Orbs, both Attack% and Physical Damage% are viable. Most of the strong support units that work well with Yunli give both of these stats, so either with good substats is good enough.

For Rope, Attack% Rope is better for damage output. However, there are situations where Energy Regeneration Rope can be better, such as when she does not need as much firepower on each of her hits but rather more frequent Ultimates to clear out weaker enemies faster, namely in Pure Fiction.

HSR Yunli Sub Stats

  • Critical Rate
  • Critical Damage
  • Attack

Getting her Critical Rate to 100% or close to it should be the primary goal. After that, both Critical Damage and Attack subs are great for DPS increase. HP sub is also more valuable on Yunli compared to other DPS since she wants to get hit a lot.

Speedtuning:

Yunli does not want to build speed, she prefers to go full Attack instead and have someone like Sparkle advance her.

HSR Yunli Relics

Option A

The Wind-Soaring Valorous:

  • 2-Pc: Increases ATK by 12%.
  • 4-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Critical Rate by 6%. After the wearer uses a follow-up attack, increases Damage dealt by Ultimate by 36%, lasting for 1 turn.

This set is tailor-made for Yunli, boosting her main form of primary damage and giving a very valuable Critical Rate boost. Since Yunli does follow-up attacks a lot, the Ultimate damage boost is essentially permanent.

Option B

The Ashblazing Grand Duke

The Ashblazing Grand Duke:

  • 2-Pc: Increases the Damage dealt by follow-up attack by 20%.
  • 4-Pc: When the wearer uses a follow-up attack, increases the wearer’s ATK by 6% for every time the follow-up attack deals Damage. This effect can stack up to 8 times and lasts for 3 turns. This effect is removed the next time the wearer uses a follow-up attack.

Ashblazing Grand Duke provides a significant 20% follow-up damage boost which applies to Yunli’s counters and Ultimate. The 4pc effects are mostly relevant only when she uses Intuit: Cull but overall it is still a fantastic alternative option.

Option C

Scholar Lost in Erudition

Scholar Lost in Erudition:

  • 2-Pc: Increases Critical Rate by 8%.
  • 4-Pc: Increases Damage dealt by Skill and Ultimate by 20%. After using Ultimate, additionally increases the Damage dealt by the next Skill by 25%.

Scholar Lost in Erudition provides a valuable high 8% Crit Rate boost and an unconditional 20% boost to her Ultimate damage. The Skill Damage increase does not do a lot for Yunli since her Skill has a low Multiplier Value.

HSR Yunli Planar Sets

Option A

Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves:

  • 2-Pc: When an ally uses a follow-up attack, the wearer gains 1 stack of Merit, stacking up to 5 times. Each stack of Merit increases the Damage dealt by the wearer’s follow-up attacks by 5%. When there are 5 stacks, additionally increases the wearer’s Critical Damage by 25%.

Once fully stacked, Duran gives the biggest boost out of all planar options. It’s worth noting that Yunli will automatically start with stack if she uses her Technique beforehand.

Option B

Inert Salsotto:

  • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Critical Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current Critical Rate reaches 50% or higher, the Damage dealt by the wearer’s Ultimate and follow-up attack increases by 15%.

Salsotto is a great alternative option. While it offers less overall damage boost than Duran, its Crit Rate will help build Yunli more easily.

HSR Yunli Teammates

Yunli is quite flexible with her support. Thanks to her high modifier, she can be played as both a hyper carry or in dual DPS, and in some cases can even function as a sustain unit. She works with almost all notable amplifiers, but her favorite teammates are units with either overwhelmingly high damage boosts as she scales very well with external buffs or units that can grant a large amount of Energy.

Harmony/Nihility

Robin: Robin does not have perfect synergy with Yunli even though she is a follow-up attack damage dealer since Yunli has notably lower attack frequency compared to units like Feixiao or Dr.Ratio. However, she still provides one of if not the highest amount of damage amplification for a hyper carry and thus is an amazing option regardless. They are also both energy-based units and thus can play well with units like Tingyun or Huohuo.

sunday

Sunday: With his Ultimate granting of a large amount of Energy and his ability to Advance Yunli, Sunday is one of the best Support options for Yunli. He even has an extremely handy 20% Critical Rate boost which makes Yunli much easier to build.

sparkle

Sparkle: Sparkle can act as the Speed boot for Yunli, letting her use her skills more often which indirectly improves her survivability. Furthermore, several of Yunli’s teams have tight SP economy which Sparkle will greatly alleviate.

tingyun

Tingyun: Tingyun is the OG Energy Support and thus fits Yunli’s playstyle like a glove. Tingyun’s amp is noticeably lower compared to the top tier Support like Robin or Sparkle but she is very plug-and-play and works well with almost any other amplifier teammates, especially Robin and Sparkle.

jiaoqiu

Jiaoqiu: Jiaoqiu’s amplification is top tier and Vulnerability is a very rare damage mod which means less buff saturation. However, Jiaoqiu does not improve Yunli’s operation since he is purely about damage boost.

Sub-DPS:

jade

Jade: Jade is a monster unit for Pure Fiction when paired with any units with good attack frequency. This duo is extremely overkill for Pure Fiction at the moment, with high AoE, Blast, and Bounce attacks at high frequency, capable of dispatching pretty much any Pure Fiction stage with relative ease.

HSR Portrait Topaz

Topaz: Topaz is the Single Target version of Jade for Yunli. Topaz likely will not outperform another Harmony unit for Yunli in most circumstances, but she will pull ahead against Fire’s Weak beefy boss.

HSR Portrait Hunt March 7th

Hunt March 7th: Hunt March 7th is one of Yunli’s best partners in Apocalyptic Shadow thanks to her strong breaking capacity.

Sustain

huohuo

Huohuo: Huohuo is the best sustain for Yunli since her Ultimate is an Energy battery. As Yunli’s energy cap is 240, Huohuo’s Ultimate will give a massive 48 Energy to Yunli. Huohuo also synergizes well with most of Yunli’s potential teammates, namely Tingyun, Robin, or Sparkle.

HSR Portrait Gallagher

Gallagher: Gallagher is the most effective holder of the Quid Pro Quo Light Cone, which Yunli and her teammates like Robin highly appreciate.

luocha

Luocha: Luocha’s healing can proc on every Yunli’s counter hit, making the team very healthy, especially against aggressive enemies.

HSR Yunli Teams

Yunli Premium Team

Yunli Premium Team:

Yunli works best as a hyper carry with two dedicated buffers. Any combination of Robin, Sparkle, Tingyun, or Jiaoqiu would be her best general team, with a sustain that can grant her energy like Huohuo or Gallagher.

Yunli Dual DPS Team

Yunli Dual DPS Team:

Yunli works well with follow-up-centric sub-DPS like Jade, Topaz, or March 7th. Jade is generally best for Pure Fiction, Topaz is great for Memory of Chaos while Hunt March 7th is the best of the three for Apocalyptic Shadow.

More Experimental – Fun Teams:

Yunli as Feixiao Battery

Yunli as Feixiao Battery:

Against extremely aggressive enemies such as Hoolay, Yunli can serve as a very effective NP Battery for Feixiao and still benefit from buffs from Robin.

Unlimited Counter Works

Unlimited Counter Works:

A fun team to fight enemies with extremely high attack frequency.

Yunli As The Sustain Unit

Yunli As The Sustain Unit:

Yunli is one of the very few DPS that can heal herself, and her healing is quite potent as well. This allows her to work as a pseudo-sustain for fast clear teams by taking all the damage while healing back up. A fast Sparkle is highly recommended so that Yunli can get frequent healing and does not get focused by multiple attacks in a row without healing.

HSR Yunli Pull Value and Conclusion

Yunli is a stellar unit and easily amongst the best and most versatile DPS 2.x has to offer. She is a monstrously strong DPS in Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Divergent Universe and can hold her own in Apocalyptic Shadow even though she is not a Break-centric unit. Yunli also synergizes well with almost all high-profile amplifiers in the game, making teambuilding with her a lot easier than many modern DPS with strict team requirements while keeping her open to power up via future hyper carry supports with Ultimate, Follow-up Attack, or Energy niche.

However, DPS(s) always have a much shorter shelf-life compared to Support units. While Yunli may be exceptionally strong and highly fun to play DPS to boot, one must always keep in mind how fast the game power creeps up the DPS roster. If players do not have a main carry for endgame content yet and want a uniquely fun, powerful, and versatile DPS, then they can do much worse than Yunli.
