Kripp's Yo-Yo Crook Beatdown Pygmalien Build

Overview

Although Pygmalien is often known for his late game scaling, he's also capable of aggressive builds that can win in 10 days!

The core of the build focuses on the Crook, Yo-Yo, and Medium weapons to give him an early powerspike.

Since it goes wider with more items than some of Pyg's other builds that have larger and less items, it can be a better matchup into Freeze metas.

However, if you don't win enough early days, you can get outscaled by other builds.

Core Combos and Synergies

Strong Start Angle

Compared to Vanessa who is very aggressive by nature, Pygmalien can often have slower starts since it's possible for him to only roll Shield and/or Healing items in his opener.

If you end up with the opposite situation, rolling mostly weapons early on, this build might be a good option for you.

You can also consider the angle if you end up getting Weapon skills with flat damage bonuses like Small Weaponry or Left-Handed (gives your Leftmost weapon +12 damage).

In either case, the build depends on you getting on an early win streak and keeping the momentum going.

Yo-Yo

The Yo-Yo is one of the keys to this build as it helps you apply aggressive kill pressure from a variety of potential angles.

With the effect, "When you use an adjacent item, use this.", it can be easily trigged quickly either with items with low cast times or items with Multicast.

Since it's easy to trigger, your main challenge becomes finding ways to increase its damage.

Crook

Besides the Yo-Yo, some of Pygmalien's best weapons are Medium size (we'll cover a few in the section below).

This makes the Crook a godsend since it gives ALL items a damage increase per Medium item you have.

In terms of flat increases, this is one of the strongest spikes in the first 10 days of the game.

Supportive Items and Skills

Overall, your core build will be Yo-Yo + Crook supported by 3 Medium items and one Small item.

Here are some example playlines that can work depending on what you roll.

Regal Blade

Especially if you find it early on, the Regal Blade is a great Medium sized choice as it gives you an easy route to scaling your damage.

dog friend

The Dog can fulfill a similar niche but can be harder to scale since you'll mostly be going to Medium size and Weapon shops rather than Small ones. However, Quixel does offer both Medium and Small items.

Flail

As we mentioned earlier, Multicast works really well with Yo-Yo since each cast will instantly proc it if it's positioned adjacent.

flail

It's also a Medium item, meaning it contributes to and receives Crook's buff.

Atatl

If you don't understand the Atatl, basically the more damage it deals, the faster it casts.

atatl

It has a limit, basically stopping at 1.0 second cast time at around 200 damage.

So although it doesn't have Multicast, since it casts so quickly, it makes for another great Medium-sized option you can place adjacent the Yo-Yo.

You will need to find ways to scale it up though, either by upgrading it, with skills, or other means.

Belt

In instances where you can't find a good Medium weapon, you can still support your win condition with survivability.

belt

Since you're planning to win as close to Day 10 as possible, the Belt will usually put you ahead in HP in most matchups.

What about the Small item slot?

Although the Icicle was used in both example boards, the Small slot is pretty flexible.

Overall, you'll want to look for something that can provide instant impact (like Icicle and Clamera) - that way you can kill enemies ASAP before they can recover or scale.

Items from other heroes like Lightbulb, Cog, Energy Potion, and so on can also work in a pinch. Be creative and open minded!

Tips and Tricks

  • Use the Curio vendor, Gumballs, and other options to help scale up your damage throughout a run.
  • If you aren't winning early and sustaining a streak, you should consider pivoting to another build (if your goal is 10 wins). Aggressive builds really need the momentum.
  • The Big Ego monster skill that can drop from the Elite Duelist encounter is a great one to look for out for.
  • Don't forget your Pygmalien econ fundamentals, like taking ATM, Coupe, and other signature items to give you more value over time.
