PoE 2 Ascendancies Overview

Ascendancy Classes are like specializations for your character, giving you more options to customize them to your playstyle.

With PoE 2's Early Access, players will have access to 6 playable classes, each with 2 Ascendancy Classes. In this article, we'll be going through a basic overview of each Ascendancy and what you can expect.

In the image above going from top to bottom, left to right, we have:

How to Ascend: Ascension Trials

While playing through the Campaign, you will get access to "Ascension Trials." These are essentially dungeons that you can complete in order to unlock your Ascendancy Class. After unlocking, higher difficulty Trials will unlock additional points to spend on your Ascendancy Class Tree.

There will be two trials with slightly different mechanics, and you can choose which Trial to tackle for your Ascension. A third Trial will be coming later.

Trial of the Sekhemas

The first trial is similar to Sanctum if you've played PoE 1. You will have a new resource called Honour. When hit, your Honour will decrease. If you lose it all, your run is over and you need to enter again.

As you progress, you'll pick new rooms to explore, fight a variety of monsters, and face different challenges. You may also find items/NPCs that will benefit you on your run.

How to find Trial of the Sekhemas (Act 2)

  1. Fight Balbala, the Traitor in Traitor's Pass.
  2. She will drop an item used to access the Trial of the Sekhemas.
  3. After going back to town, you will unlock a Waypoint to take you straight to the Trial of the Sekhemas.

Trial of Chaos

For the Trial of Chaos, there won't be an Honour system. So if you have a slow tanky character, this Trial may be better for you. Instead, you'll move through different areas, choosing detrimental effects along the way.

These could be environmental hazards, curses, monster buffs, and more.

How to find Trial of Chaos (Act 3)

  1. Defeat Xyclucian and pick up the Inscribed Ultimatum.
  2. Find the Temple of Chaos and begin the Trial the the Inscribed Ultimatum.

Now that you know what Ascendancies are and how to unlock them, let's go over each Ascendancy. We won't go into a full deep dive, but cover just enough so you can have a feel of what they do.
