After completing the quest “Flames to the Flood”, players will start Chapter 4: Xardas. Saturas will ask the player to meet Xardas and ask for his help to complete the Water Mages’ ritual to destroy the barrier.
First, players can loot chests and books around the Water Mages’ headquarters to get some valuable items and learn about magical creatures and the lore of Gothic.
NOTE: This quest requires the usage of both Ice and Fire spells. You should buy a few Ice and Fire Scrolls from the Water Mages while you’re in their hideout, as they will be necessary later on in the quest. Make sure to have items that grant Mana Regeneration, too, as you’ll need to expend large amounts of Mana to fire these spells.
Where to Find Xardas Tower
The Xardas Tower is located in the blank area of the map, the Orc Territory. There are several paths to reach it, but the safest and most straightforward one is taking the road south from the Swamp Camp, the same one that leads to the Mountain Fortress.
On the Mountain Fortress crossroads, players will overlook the Xardas Sunken Tower. Despite the similar name, this is a completely different location that isn’t relevant to this quest. Instead, head down into the lake and take the path that goes up near the broken bridge. (This requires the Climbing Skill).
Where to Find the Three Golems
Once you go past the lake, you’ll see the Xardas Tower near you. Go left, and then down the path.
You’ll see a Stone Golem directly in front of you. Use a Blunt Weapon to make short work of him.
Then turn back to where you came from and continue down the path. The road will split into two. First, take the left path to the Tower and speak to the Xardas Demon, who will ask you to show him a Stone Golem heart, an Ice Golem heart, and a Fire Golem heart. These can be found in the surrounding areas.
If you’ve been following our guide, you should already have the Stone Golem heart. Next is the Ice Golem Heart. Go back to where the path splits in two and take the path to the Snow Area.
The snow area is filled with Tundra Wolves, which are more aggressive than their regular counterparts and deal more damage as well. Continue the path up the mountain until you find a big cave. You’ll find the Ice Golem inside.
The Ice Golem is weak to Fire Spells. By this point, you might have looted several Fire Scrolls. If you don’t have any, you can buy them from the Water Mages in the New Camp. You should also equip armor, rings, and amulets that increase Ice defense.
Several smaller Golems will appear throughout the fight. Focus them down first, and then finish off the Ice Golem. Make sure to loot the Ice Golem Heart.
Then, continue through the cave until you reach the opposite exit. Drop down into the lakes below and follow the path until you reach the lava area.
Next, you’ll have to continue walking down the path and climbing walls until you drop down near a lava lake. Make sure to get the Ice Bolt Scroll on the floor along the way.
You’ll see a cave to your left after you finish climbing the wall. The Fire Golem is inside. Make sure you’ve equipped several Ice Spells, Mana Regen items, and rings and amulets that offer Fire protection.
The Fire Golem can hit you with arm swings and shoot lava forward. During the fight, the sides of the cave will be flooded with lava, so you will have very little space to maneuver. You can walk backward toward the cave entrance to cover distance while dishing out damage.
Where to Find Xardas
After you’ve taken down the Fire Golem, take his Heart. Exit the cave, and take a right through the stone bridge. This will lead you to the base of Xardas Tower, where you can hand over the Golem Hearts to the demon. He’ll remove the seal, allowing you to take the stairs up to Xardas at the top of the tower.
Make sure to loot everything in here - You’ll find several valuable items, including a Summon Golem Scroll that will come in handy later. Talk to Xardas to complete the quest and advance the story.
