This tier list tries to meet a lot of different categories and fear levels in the middle, so I suspect it will ultimately succeed at nothing but still be generally agreeable (for the most part...). I'm expecting my bias towards high fear to show a bit though. Some of these weapons are really not a fun experience at 62 or higher... This is mostly for entertainment's sake. If you're just a casual player and you're not feeling picky, all these weaopns do just fine at low fear with basically any build that's not abysmal. You'll likely have the best time by following your personal preference on playstyle until you hit 40-50 fear.
On to the tier list!
S Tier
These usually combine multiple best in class traits to form a weapon that's both versatile and strong. These feature either some of the best damage or safety in the game.
Aspect of Medea
Truly a standout aspect in every way. Disgusting damage even with basic combos. Survivability issues can be easily solved at lower fear levels. The only real knock against it is the amount of skill it takes to pilot it consistently well, but it doesn't take much of that for it to shine at a high level relative to most aspects. Combine that with how head and shoulders above the rest of the competition its highest level is, and it's unfair to rank it anywhere else but #1.
Aspect of Melinoë (Witch's Staff)
Disgusting range and safety combined with good hitboxes, great synergy with boons (any % works on the special!), and game changing hammers. In my opinion, it's the easiest aspect in the game to play if your playstyle fits well to it. Compare fighting rivals bosses with this or
Aspect of Circe to basically any other aspect and you'll notice a clear difference.
Aspect of Circe
Best in class safety, even better than
Aspect of Melinoë. Just get
Smolder Ring or
Storm Ring and watch stuff melt. Either of those build wonderfully into other options, and
Toula or
Raki will keep your casts taped to people. You can actually let your familiar and your casts play the game for you, it's hilarious.
Aspect of Moros
A bit of a fall from its heyday, but hey, it still melts the screen once it gets a good build set up. Versatile with any % damage on its attacks and any curse on its special, Its biggest issue is a more resource heavy build in relation to the other S tier aspects.
A Tier
A lot of good things going on with these, but they just have a few quirks that hold them back from matching the S Tier weapons. Strong all around.
Aspect of the Morrigan
Dang is this thing fun. I mean, really. It's a bit tricky though, and requires a bit more attention to combos than the rest of the aspects. Either that or just roll final slice with hestia or apollo and melt the screen with dash attack > attack > repeat. Stay far, far away from anything related to the special key unless it's for your triad combo though.
Aspect of Anubis
Another very strong aspect. Feels relatively inaccessible, but once you get just a couple bread and butter combos under your hands, it proves to be crazy strong. The two things that keeps it from S tier though is the fact you basically have nothing to hitstun enemies with and having to deal with bosses walking out of your aoes. Except cerberus. That poor puppy just absolutely melts to omega attacks. Tape down that sprint key as soon as you get your attacks and cast set up though, you'll need it.
Aspect of Nergal
Man, this thing absolutely demolishes a room so quickly. Beware of wards before you get
Sworn Strike though... A bit of trouble on bosses relative to the rooms and a decent reliance on
Psychic Whirlwind for most high fear runs keep this thing down a bit though. Also bear in mind that the weapon's healing passive is complete cheeks without first nabbing a few levels on the aspect. Normally that's whatever, but healing passive becomes pretty central to the game, especially when scars are involved.
Aspect of Nyx
Another room evaporator. What holds this one back is bad bossing (the aspect's unique gimmicks add basically no damage at all to bosses) and a reliance on having a big loadout. Both attack and special need good boons, and a gain boon never hurts either. Once you get a build moving though, this thing tears through a room with the best of them.
Aspect of Charon
This one definitely plays a bit worse at high fear, but for most folks, this'll tear through a lot of stuff without much problem. Play a bit patient, get the timings right, and get a good build, and one cast > omega special combo can obliterate entire waves and even potentially phase some bosses instantly. Remember to use your dash while channeling your omega special. Not doing that would basically drop this weapon an entire tier on high fear levels where you don't kill everything with like one shot. Supergiant, if you're reading this, don't strip the mid channel dash from charon like you did staves.
Aspect of Supay
Another touchy one that struggles with hitstun similar to
Aspect of Anubis, but it also has a lot of unique things. What keeps this one from an S tier is a bit more build reliance than most other aspects, and learning some new movement and dodging patterns to compensate for the bad hitstun. Also,
Breaker Rush actively benefits from turning auto sprint off, and that's a particularly weird mechanic.
Aspect of Thanatos
This one feels really nice, but is yet another case of great room clear and bad bossing. Also can rely on
Psychic Whirlwind to hit its highest highs, but its basic attacks are much easier to work with than
Aspect of Nergal. That bonus attack speed really helps elevate this aspect and make the basic attacks easier. This weapon got a lot better after the buffs to it and
Aspect of Melinoë, and it can run builds built around its basic attack much more consistently instead of just focusing on the omega.
Aspect of Eos
This one is versatile; lots of different builds can work well. Anything with a % on attack and anything with damage curses on-hit (blitz, scorch, hitch) and you're all set for action! You barely have to do anything and the daybreaker just wipes rooms for you. Its only issues are its reliance on a filled out build and the daybreaker having a lot of trouble keeping up with mobile targets (especially some bosses). Protip: try
Sworn Flourish over
Sworn Strike after the unseen update torch rework. It plays very well with the new specials and lets you tack on an attack boon that makes the daybreaker do even more damage.
Aspect of Momus
Rounding out the A tier, we have momus, the only staff aspect still built around omega moves. As such, the best builds tend to be a little more resource heavy like most omega aspects, but even just a good attack and gain boon are enough to eviscerate the vast majority of rooms. With omega channeling times and a long delay between pulses though, positioning can be a real challenge. Also, supergiant, if you're reading this, bring back the mid channel dash please, that'll jump the weapon up like half a tier.
B Tier
These have a few good parts to them, but either have clear drawbacks or just not enough positives to be in the same class as strong weapons. Respectable all around, but nothing too crazy.
Aspect of Melinoë
Coat has one of the worst base kits, but that really doesn't hold it back from being capable when factoring in the cards and stuff. The movement speed bonus is downright disgusting and ensures you don't need to worry about hitting
Blinding Rush or
Celerity and just makes
Frigid Rush or
Hard Target safer than on almost any other weapon. Combine that with
Shimmering Rockets and this thing can easily be piss safe. Your attack is relatively low damage, but it's still viable at 62 or below with
The Huntress (III) and
Flutter Strike or
Nova Strike +
Reaper Frame or
Siege Frame. Plenty of very safe builds on this one, and it's uniquely good for 67s as well due to the movement speed bonus.
Aspect of Melinoë (Twin Blades)
This one is the most straightforward of the blades, and it's both better and worse for that. The backstab passive can be finicky, but you get guaranteed value on one part of your special from it. At its peak, the aspect feels incredibly smooth with quick animations, decent damage, and good mobility. At its worst, you just kinda tickle most enemies unless you get proper curses and on-hit boons. At least after the buff to
Nova Strike aoe specifically on blades and the base damage and range of the attack combo, it can easily utilize a % damage build at high fear with proper hammers like
Wicked Onslaught or
Skulking Onslaught.
Aspect of Hel
Now here's a real tough one to rank. Rather inflexible builds with lots of quirks about them, especially with how omegas inhibit your mobility. Once it gets going, it can tear through enemies with both good damage and safety. Big reliance on on hit, probably the most dependence in the game? Got anything besides
Wave Strike or
Flame Strike at a fear above like 50? The difference is extremely noticeable. The special also greatly relies on
Heaven Flourish or
Sworn Flourish. You basically need to hit an optimal setup with proper boons in proper spots from two of
Zeus,
Hestia,
Poseidon, or
Hera or you're relying on random stuff like leveled up
Hephaestus volcanic slop.
Aspect of Pan
This one used to have a few extremely strong S tier level builds, but with multiple nerfs to the kit, this weapon has certainly seen better days. Still the best of the blades with trick knives though, so arguably the highest high. As of 1.0,
Wave Flourish was nerfed, but the internal cooldown on
Poseidon's wave effects was removed, resulting in many more wave effects making it through. The result?
Aspect of Pan is now a very serviceable B tier weapon again. You'll spend most of the run playing it like a slightly worse
Aspect of Melinoë but then hopefully using the omega special to burst down high health targets and damage bosses.
Aspect of Shiva
Another one that's abysmal for high fear, but succeeds splendidly without wards or on lower levels because omega special and attack can wipe entire rooms without having to think much about it. Slow attack animations are really rough to deal with, though, and the dash attack is probably the singular worst attack in the game. It does have some nice elements to it, and making it workable on high fear requires some good combo knowledge, specifically missile > wait > regular attack and the ability to dash after the 2nd punch in its attack sequence and still throw out its unique, very high damage 3rd punch instead of its useless dash attack.
Aspect of Persephone
This thing is finicky, but the sheer amount of builds you can piece together with any decent amount of high rolling is kind of crazy. You don't even have to use the omega special with the sprouted mechanic if you don't want to, but it's really well worth it in like half the runs you do. Learn a few boss timings and how to spin the thing around in a circle while paying attention to your sprouted meter and the omega special can really shine. If you're not interested in putting much time in, just high roll on the attack with the extra levels mechanic and enjoy a beefed up version of
Aspect of Melinoë.
Aspect of Melinoë (Umbral Flames)
Another standard weapon, but with a built in crit chance. Also capable of large and funny numbers, but it feels more mana hungry and harder to position than
Aspect of Eos. Here, you'll find persistent range and spacing requirements along with lower mobility and a higher resource requirement for the build. Getting full i-frames on the dodge while channeling attacks does help make up for that (like with the other 2 torches), but that still means your only real tool while distributing damage is dodge timing.
Aspect of Melinoë (Argent Skull)
The most basic
Revaal aspect with not terribly much special going for it.
Wide Grin + omega attack works great on it, but not any better than
Aspect of Persephone. It's arguably worse because you don't get the extra levels and it doesn't add any of the bonus damage from
Aspect of Melinoë's passive. Basically the only thing this aspect does better than any other skull is throwing a % damage attack boon on and going to town from range.
C Tier
These weapons could potentially use a bit of love. They either have few upsides, strong downsides, or both. Don't get me wrong, they're all perfectly strong at lower fears and still playable at higher fears, but there's a noticeable difference between these and better aspects. Playable, but with clear issues.
Aspect of Artemis
Man, this one is unfortunate. Despite how useful its passive riposte can prove to be, it usually finds itself being somewhat clunky when trying to use the aspect's strength or being played as a strictly worse version of the other blades. At least an omega attack build can lean on the riposte crit and channel time buff to play marginally better than on other aspects, but it's the worst viable build for high fear and really the only upside this aspect has. Anything else you can do,
Aspect of Melinoë does better with a backstab passive that just exists and works without having to stop to eat an attack.
Aspect of Melinoë (Moonstone Axe)
This one is easily one of the most abysmal on the list for high fear, but for lower fear it's quite decent. It's slow as molasses, though, and that renders it really difficult for a lot of folks. That extra attack power goes a long way without vows like wards and grit, but you'll find yourself really struggling with some of the vows the higher fear you go. The 1.0 update buffed the attack power and health even more. This doesn't really solve any of the weapon's core issues, but at least it makes it a little better at basically everything.
Aspect of Selene
This thing... just doesn't deal damage. Try as you might, it gets outdamaged by basically everything. It probably has the highest resource requirement in the game, basically requiring all the resources of an omega build, plus extra to make up for the coat's moveset, plus moon beam/some decent investment into the hex. Cool when it does work though, and I can't escape the fact that builds with
Night (X) built around omega attack and omega special that utilize the passive
Sky Fall are fantastic when they work. Unfortunately, they have a lot of moving parts, important boons to hit, and additional focus and skill needed to utilize the omega attack well. In the majority of scenarios, it's better as a worse version of
Aspect of Melinoë
