Build Summary

Hydrakuna is a top-tier Hydra Sorcerer build for Season 9, dominating from leveling to endgame! With the Ophidian Iris amulet, this build merges your Hydras into three massive Hydras, enabling them to deal AoE damage.

This build is designed for use upon reaching level 60 and is the best choice for progressing from Torment 1 to Torment 4. You have a full explanations video here or a detailed written guide just below!

Variant Summary

High Mobility very good for speedfarming

The Inferno Cooldown Reduction temper on your ring isn’t a mistake. There’s simply nothing better to go for until you get a Ring of Starless Skies. The Bosskiller variant relies on Inferno, and even outside of that, you can use Inferno in place of Teleport for more burst potential.

Potion: Elixir of Resourcefulness Incenses: Sage's Whisper, Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices

Lucky Hit: Up to a 15% Chance to Restore Primary Resource is VERY IMPORTANT to get on the wand

Masterworking (MW) enhances an item's stats. Each MW rank boosts all affixes by 5%, but Ranks 4, 8, and 12 give a 25% bonus to one random affix.

  • 1 MW: Rank 4 (blue), one affix gets a 25% bonus.
  • 2 MW: Rank 8 (yellow), two affixes get a 25% bonus.
  • 3 MW: Rank 12 (orange), three affixes get a 25% bonus.

Use the Masterworking menu at Blacksmiths with materials from The Pit. MW ranks can be reset if needed. In this very end game version you want to hit 3MW on everything to optimise as much as you can. In this build, as you are leveling it doesn't matter to much, try to get 1-2 masterwork on the stats.

If you are lucky enough to find Nagu, use it instead of Cir!

Build Notes

Gameplay Loop

1 - Cast Ice Shards to trigger cooldown resets from the Teleport Enchantment and gain extra damage. 2 - Move using Teleport Enchant for better mobility and positioning. 3 - Use Lightning Spear and Ice Blades early to apply Vulnerable and gain Attack Speed. 4 - Spam Ice Armor to boost your survivability. 5 - Summon Hydra which is your main damage to kill enemies when needed (you can have 2 active). 6 - Use Inferno if you need to group up monsters or deal burst damage.

How It Works

How to Get This Build Started

Once you reach level 60, your first priority is to start tempering your gear to boost your power. Next, farm boss summoning materials to start targeting Uniques. The most important Unique to get early is Ophidian Iris, make that your top priority! . . . Ophidian Iris & Flickerstep: Duriel, King of Maggots - Andariel - Harbinger of Hatred Tal Rasha's Iridescent Loop: Urivar, Echo of Varshan Hail of Verglas: Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint, Urivar Axial Conduit: Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint . . . Once you’ve got your Uniques, you can start farming Pits to level up and power up your glyphs. Try to find better gear and start masterworking it. At this stage, you don’t need to aim for perfect masterwork, just focus on progression. I’ve listed the most optimized masterwork options in case you get lucky and find a perfect item. You can also compare your gear with [Top Meta Endgame] to see which Greater Affixes (GAs) you’ll eventually want. . . .

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Axial Conduit can actually provide more damage if you have a Greater Affix for Max Resource and can masterwork it at least once. Otherwise, both are pretty close Tibault's Will gives more toughness and helps with mana. It's usually easier to progress toward the top endgame build by starting with Tibault's Will, but if you manage to find a strong Axial Conduit, that works too!
  • The Wolves are coming from the rune "CEH"
  • Critical Strike Chance: 40% from Esu's Ferocity (key passive), 20% from Invoked Hydra, 10% dex and base, 15% searing heat & 15% from Conjurer if you use it. So it's very easy to reach 100% Critical Strike Chance!
  • Hail of Verglas is used for its unique effect: "You deal 2% increased damage for each time Ice Shards hits an enemy for 5 seconds, up to [100] stacks." Since there’s not much to do once your two Hydras are active, casting Ice Shards during downtime lets you stack this bonus, potentially doubling your damage!
  • 1H vs 2H : We use wand + focus instead of a Staff because the extra damage from Staff isn't worth the mobility that you lose. The damage on Hydra is more than enough and the damage difference isn't noticeable where the speed is. We use 2H in Pit Pushing setup because all we care about is damage.
