Build Details
This is the current strongest end game variant of Whirlwind in Diablo 4. It uses Ramaladni's Magnum Opus Unique 1h weapon for fast and high damage scaling. When searching for this unique it is very important to find one with a 0.3 roll. The damage difference between 0.1 and 0.3 may sound small but its massive!
This build is unique hybrid of Whirlwind since the gear used is typically what you would see on a Hammer of the Ancients build with Maximum Fury everywhere. We use the maximum fury rolls to stack additional damage in Whirlwind. Make sure you swap your Whirlwind skill to be using 1 handed weapons by opening your skill menu and clicking on Whirlwind to swap the weapon type. This is the only way you will get the bonus effect from Ramaladni's Magnum Opus!
In-Depth Explanation
The core mechanic of Whirlwind is called Snapshotting. This is a little known part of how the build works and is the reason why many players struggle with damage.
Snapshotting means that once you start channeling Whirlwind the game takes a "snapshot" of all of the current multipliers and buffs applied to Whirlwind and keeps them active until you stop channeling Whirlwind.
This is a very powerful interaction because it can extend the natural time limitations of buffs.
To use this to its maximum potential you need to make sure that your Fury is full and overcapped for the Edgemaster's Aspect as well as Limitless Rage.
To make sure your Fury is full you need to use your shouts and Lunging Strike. You can also cast Whirlwind for taking advantage of the Wrath glyph which grants Fury on Critical strikes however you must make sure the fury gain is higher than the cost of whirlwind.
All of the Damage from Whirlwind comes during the Vulnerable window from the Exploit glyph. This is for the first 3 seconds of hitting a target. If you cannot kill the enemy in those 3 seconds you need to move on to the next pack and return after the 20+ second limit before exploit can apply vulnerable again.
- Cast Rallying Cry, Challenging Shout, and War Cry
- Use Ground Stomp
- Cast and Hold Whirlwind until Vulnerable Drops from the Target
- Cast Kick to reapply Vulnerable
