Warlocks in the New Episode: Maximizing Your Build
In this new episode, Warlocks have a plethora of robust build options at their disposal. Among the most effective strategies for managing large crowds of enemies, including champions and the new banes, is to harness the power of the Rime Coat Rainment exotic chest piece.
Acquisition and Benefits
This new exotic can be obtained from Master Rahool after unlocking the fourth page of exotic focusing. It features the Bleak Domain intrinsic trait, which enhances our Bleakwater Turret in several impactful ways.
When activating Bleakwatcher, the turrets will now be positioned higher, reducing the likelihood of accidental shots from you or your teammates. Additionally, the turrets will engage targets from much greater distances, and upon deployment, they will create a field of stasis energy.
This stasis field will develop four shatterable crystals, dealing significant damage to nearby enemies. Once destroyed, new crystals will emerge, continuously applying stacks of cold to enemies within the field, causing them to freeze and ultimately shatter. While standing in the stasis field, we generate a stasis buddy that assists us by firing at targets as we do, slowing enemies with icicles that dissipate two seconds after we step outside the storm.
Tactical Versatility
What I find most beneficial about this exotic is its versatility. We can strategically place turrets right next to us or throw them into crowds of enemies, effectively slowing and freezing foes while exposing them to the storm’s shattering effects. Pairing this with the Hail the Storm artifact mod amplifies the radius and damage of those effects, making us incredibly effective at clearing large groups.
There are also several other artifact mods we can utilize to enhance our overall performance, which we’ll explore shortly.
Subclass Selection: Prismatic vs. Stasis
For this build, we’ve chosen the Prismatic subclass over the Stasis subclass, as it offers superior ability regeneration and survivability. Within our Prismatic subclass, we’re leveraging the Feed the Void aspect, granting us Devour, which boosts our grenade energy and health regeneration on final blows. This means we can maintain a steady supply of turrets on the battlefield.
Our primary ability is Arcane Needle, which unravels enemies from a distance. For close engagements, Incinerator Snap or Penumbral Blast can be more effective. While most grenade energy will be funneled into Bleakwatcher turrets, we’ve selected Vortex Grenades for standard engagements.
For our super, we’re opting for Nova Bomb, although Song of Flame can be useful in specific scenarios due to its significant damage resistance while active.
Fragment Synergy
Our chosen fragments include Facet of Dawn, which provides a 25% damage boost to our weapons after hitting enemies with our powered melee and allows us to pierce barrier champion shields. Our Bleakwatcher turrets will stun Unstoppable and Overload champions, giving us an edge against all champion types.
With Facet of Courage, our light-based attacks gain a 10% damage bonus against slowed, frozen, or unraveled enemies. To further enhance ability regeneration, we’re using Facet of Awakening, generating elemental pickups that create Firesprites, Stasis Shards, and Void Breaches for added grenade, melee, and class ability energy.
For survivability, we’ve included Facet of Protection, granting a 15% damage resistance when surrounded, which increases to 32% when we activate Transcendence. Coupled with Facet of Purpose, we gain a Void overshield upon collecting orbs of power, providing an impressive 70% damage resistance.
By choosing the Prismatic subclass over Stasis, we maximize our ability regeneration, survivability, and overall damage output.
Artifact Mods for Enhanced Performance
As we mentioned, several artifact mods can significantly enhance our capabilities. For example, the Fell the Revenant mod provides a damage boost against Scorn enemies, particularly beneficial in certain Grandmaster challenges.
With our Bleakwatcher turrets keeping enemies frozen, we can take advantage of Conductive Cosmic Crystal, which grants a 5% damage increase to all Void abilities, stacking with the bonuses from Facet of Courage and potentially increasing to 8% with the right tonic.
Incorporating grenade launchers into our loadout can further amplify our damage output. The Concussive Reload mod applies a 15% weakening debuff to high-value targets, enhancing our damage against champions and bosses.
For our grenade launcher, we’ll primarily use Lost Signal but will also consider options like Liturgy, Lingering Dread, or Witherhoard. The Kinetic Impact mod will trigger Kinetic Tremors on sustained damage, boosting our grenade launchers’ effectiveness and stunning Unstoppable champions.
Weapon Choices and Armor Setup
Now that we’ve discussed the subclass and artifact, let’s focus on weapon choices. For legendary weapons, traits like Demolitionist can help maximize our Bleakwatcher uptime. When using grenade launchers in endgame content, Disorienting Grenades are essential for temporarily removing enemies from combat.
For exotics, the Polaris Lance and Graviton Lance stand out for their synergy with the Rime Coat Rainment, particularly against champions. The Polaris Lance can handle Barrier champions with its solar explosions and scorch effects, while the Graviton Lance creates void explosions that trigger bonuses from our fragments.
Armor and Mod Focus
For armor stats, we prioritize Resilience and Discipline. Achieving Tier 10 Resilience reduces incoming damage by 30%, crucial for Grandmaster content, while Tier 10 Discipline shortens our Bleakwatcher cooldown.
To improve turret uptime and generate orbs of power, we’re using Siphon mods on our helmet and Reaper mods on our class item. As we collect orbs, we build armor charges, allowing us to consume these charges for up to a 34% bonus energy boost when deploying turrets.
With additional mods like Bomber and Impact Induction, we’ll maximize our grenade uptime, enabling us to field two or even three turrets against dense enemy groups.
In summary, using the Rime Coat Rainment with the Prismatic subclass creates a powerful build capable of handling large enemy swarms and locking down champions and banes. This setup equips you with all the necessary tools to excel in this episode’s Grandmaster Nightfalls.
Step 1: Throw Turret into Crowd of Enemies. Step 2: Cast Rift for Protection. Step 3: Follow up with Weapons that deal AOE Damage Step 5: Use Penumbral Blast on Up-Close Enemies. Step 6: Collect Stasis Shards. Step 7: Throw Turrets when Available. Step 8: Cast Super against big groups of Enemies.
