How It Works

The Skull of Dire Ahamkara was one of several exotics reworked at the start of the new Revenant episode, boosting its status from D-tier to an impressive A-tier exotic!

This exotic comes with the Grandeur intrinsic trait, which provides significant benefits when using the Nova Bomb super. But don’t be fooled—this exotic is technically agnostic and can enhance any subclass.

When using Nova Bomb, you'll gain a damage resistance bonus starting at 99% when the animation begins. By the time you’ve thrown the Nova Bomb, this bonus will decrease to 75%, making it much safer to launch those bombs when surrounded by enemies.

Additionally, you’ll receive a 5% bonus to super energy for each enemy defeated by your Nova Bomb, allowing for a maximum of 50% bonus energy to fuel your next Nova Bomb. This means you can use Nova Bomb not just for damage, but also to regain your super even when engaging low-ranking enemies.

The final benefit this exotic provides is that when Devour is active, landing weapon final blows will grant between 1% and 4% bonus super energy based on the combatant’s tier level. Combined with the energy gained from defeating enemies with your Nova Bomb, you could have your super back in as little as 20 seconds when facing dense groups of enemies, perfect for endgame content like dungeons, Grandmaster Nightfalls, and expert-level onslaughts.

As mentioned earlier, while the Skull of Dire Ahamkara offers many advantages with Nova Bomb, the bonus super energy from weapon final blows does not require Nova Bomb to be equipped. This means that as long as you can trigger Devour, you can regain super energy regardless of your super and subclass combination.

It’s easier to trigger Devour with a Void or Prismatic build thanks to Feed the Void. The Buried Bloodline exotic sidearm is another option, granting Devour upon landing rapid final blows.

So, using this exotic combination with any subclass, you can generate a significant amount of bonus super energy. But why choose the Skull of Dire Ahamkara over Nezarec's Sin?

Nezarec's Sin provides a regeneration bonus to all your abilities, including your super, but only triggers from final blows with Void weapons or abilities, which can limit your loadout in certain activities. The Skull of Dire Ahamkara, however, generates bonus super energy from any weapon final blow as long as you have Devour active, giving you much more freedom in your loadout choices.

With the Skull of Dire Ahamkara providing this massive increase in super energy, you can extend it even further by using the Bad Juju exotic pulse rifle, which also generates bonus super energy on final blows and creates cursed thrall explosions for area damage—making it easier to defeat large groups of enemies and recharge your super energy effectively.

Some other standout exotic options include Quicksilver Storm, which generates trace rockets and features its own grenade launcher mode, making it a powerful choice for ad-clear. Traveler’s Chosen is excellent for generating bonus class ability, melee, and grenade energy, and with Osmosis, you can create another Void weapon to use.

The most effective primary exotic, in my opinion, is Outbreak Perfected. With Rewind Rounds, you can keep pumping out bullets, and the nanites it generates deal extra damage to large groups of enemies, significantly improving the recharge rate of your Transcendence and super energy.

For companion legendary weapons, look for those that offer ability regeneration bonuses—weapons with Thresh are fantastic as they provide bonus super energy on final blows.

I’ve also been enjoying the new area denial grenade launcher, the Velocity Baton, which drops from the Vespers Host dungeon. This GL comes with Destabilizing Rounds and Repulsor Brace, granting a 70-point overshield that greatly enhances our survivability in challenging endgame activities.

Grenade launchers are in a great place right now due to their ability to weaken targets, and heavy grenade launchers benefit from kinetic impacts that activate kinetic tremors on sustained damage, which is why we’ll be using grenade launchers like the Edge Transit.

Now that we’ve discussed what the Skull of Dire Ahamkara does and the weapons we’ll be using, let’s talk about how the Prismatic subclass enhances our build.

We’ll utilize Feed the Void to grant Devour, giving us health regeneration and bonus grenade energy on every final blow when active. The second aspect depends on the activity, and we’ll be using either Helion Buddies or Weaver’s Call to generate Threadlings, both of which improve our overall damage output and ability to handle large groups of enemies.

For fragments, we’ll employ Facet of Dominance, which allows our vortex grenades to weaken enemies, providing a 15% damage increase against weakened foes. Facet of Dawn will trigger Radiance when we strike enemies with our Nova Bomb, granting a 25% increase in weapon damage and allowing our weapons to pierce barrier champion shields.

We’ll also use Facet of Purpose and Facet of Protection for added survivability. Facet of Protection grants a 15% damage resistance bonus when surrounded by enemies, increasing to 32% while in our Transcendent state. With Facet of Purpose, we’ll gain Void overshields when collecting orbs of power, making us nearly indestructible.

Lastly, we’ll use Facet of Aweakening, increasing our ability uptime by generating elemental pickups. With our build’s current setup, this will create Void breaches and firesprites, allowing us to recharge our grenade and class ability energy faster.

With a constant supply of Radiance, Devour, and overshields, the Prismatic subclass perfectly complements the Skull of Dire Ahamkara, allowing this exotic to truly shine in Revenant.

Now, let’s wrap things up by discussing character stats and armor mods. We’ll primarily focus on Resilience and Discipline to enhance grenade regeneration and reduce incoming damage, but adding some focus to Intellect can help us achieve even faster Nova Bomb recharge times.

To maximize our orb generation, we’ll use Harmonic Siphon mods on our helmet, Firepower mods on our gloves, and Repeater mods on our class item. As we collect orbs, we’ll gain armor charges, which we’ll utilize with a Grenade Kickstart mod for up to a 34% bonus grenade energy. This helps keep enemies weakened, and with the Ashes to Assets helmet mod, grenade final blows will grant additional super energy.

With all these sources of bonus energy combined, our abilities will regenerate rapidly, allowing us to achieve Transcendence and super energy much faster. This makes us incredibly effective at crowd control while also maximizing damage output.
