DeadlockDeadlock Venator Guide and Overview

In this Deadlock Venator guide, you’ll learn the fundamentals of their abilities, unique play styles, and fundamental tips.

Celeste's hero tags are: Devout, Arms Expert, and Tactical

Overview

Venator is a weapons specialist that excels in a multitude of ranges. What he lacks in speed and mobility, Venator more than makes up for it by simply scaling in raw weapon damage. And as such, his items and build paths should focus extremely hard in the Nnon-Conditional Weapon Damage stat such as Glass Cannon.

From offical Steam page:

"Venator doesn't walk the righteous path, he blazes the trail so that others may do so safely. His biggest challenge is knowing which weapon to use first. Firing a Consecrating Grenade into the fray softens up his enemies and keeps them from restoring health, and his Hex-Lined Snap Trap scatters across the ground to lock them in place. A Gutshot from his shotgun will knock back enemies who get too close, and when the time is right, Ira Domini will rid the world of evil once and for all. - "Today, nine commandments will have to do."

Strengths And Weaknesses Summary

  • Unique scaling potential, Venator is the first hero to have skills to scale with Weapon Damage exclusively and therefore has unique ways to scale his damage.
  • Tools for every situation in the game, Ira Dominifor long ranges, Gutshot for close ranges and Consecrating Grenade for heal-cut as well.
  • The Blessed modifier also allows Venator to deal the very rare form of “Pure” Damage, which also executes as well.(Pure Damage meaning it cannot be modified by any means, so no armor or amps)
  • Very slow and lacks mobility tools, Venator players need to space and position correctly in order to survive in fights.
  • Super item dependent, his unique form of spell scaling is dependent on Weapon Damage and not Spirit, compared to most characters. This means Venator takes much longer to scale throughout the game as Weapon Damage is much more costly.
  • Since most of Venator’s damage is gun damage, items such as Bullet Resilience and Metal Skin mitigate Venator’s damage incredibly well.  This affects the impact damage of Consecrating Grenade, Gutshot and Ira Domini as well!

How to Counter Venator

  • Venator requires a lot of souls and time in order to truly become the damage powerhouse, and as such has a very modest laning phase. Poking out the Venator with short and quick trades is ideal as he cannot retaliate very well outside of Gutshot.
  • Cannot deal with getting engaged upon, Venator is also both slow and lacks mobility so he suffers immensely when getting engaged upon with items such as Majestic Leap or Warp Stone.
  • Deals almost zero Spirit damage, which leads to him being very easy to mitigate with items with Bullet Resistance or Disarming Hex. Metal Skin also mitigates all of his weapon damage and his ability damage as well. (Outside of Blessed attacks)
  • Disarming Hex also makes Venator unable to shoot Ira Domini as well.
  • Characters with great zoning tools such as Graves Tombstone or Wall as well as strong displacement tools like Bebop’s Hook or Lash’s Death Slam work exceedingly well against Venator.
  • Hex-Lined Snap Trap can be shot and destroyed.
