We also have a best decks tier list for LoR and an agent tier list for Valorant.

Methodology TLDR:

  • Our first tier list aimed at lower ELO, specifically Bronze up to high Plat/low Diamond. Our second tier list is for high ELO, aimed at Diamond 2 and above.
  • Our experts curate these picks and are an indicator of the champion’s inherent strength when played at the highest level. For many of the user base, this information isn’t super relevant for their games but provides invaluable insight into the game itself.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo Queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Expert pick commentary

To see all the explanations for our expert picks and more, head to our tier list feature!

LoL Tier List feature example

Top – Darius

  • Darius has been popping off at all ranks recently and this doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon! He’s got everything he needs to 1v9 from the top lane, solid early trading power, fantastic 1v2 potential and an amazing ability to carry games when ahead.
  • Darius is one of those picks that no top laner enjoys coming up against, so if you can’t beat em? Join them!

Jungle – Master Yi

  • Master Yi is the gift that just keeps on giving so far this season, and with a few of his more difficult jungle matchups being nerfed, he’s going to continue to be a real problem, especially at lower ranks.
  • Master Yi has some of the highest solo carry potential in the game, and if your enemies don’t have the right champions to deal with you, you can simply sprint towards enemy backlines and destroy them before they have a chance to play the game.

Mid – Aurelion Sol

  • Aurelion Sol is one of the strongest late game mages you can play right now, boasting an impressive win rate at almost every single rank.
  • He just has so much AoE damage and late game power, and all it takes in those big teamfights is a big wombo combo with his Ultimate to literally evaporate entire teams in a matter of seconds.
  • To add to this, he’s got solid waveclear, mobility and durability to get him through that early game too, meaning he almost always scales like a dream.

Bottom – Jinx

  • Jinx has already been an amazing marksman to main recently, but with the item buffs this week, especially to Infinity Edge, she’s going to get even stronger!
  • She may not be the most mobile AD Carry in the game but once you start popping off with those passive resets you zoom around teamfights melting all types of targets with your minigun and having an absolute blast at the same time.
  • Jinx has some seriously insane scaling with her huge AoE splash damage in teamfights, so if you haven’t already been playing her, give her a go this patch!

Support – Zyra

  • Zyra has always been more effective at lower ranks with her relentless poke and ability to bully lanes beyond repair, but when she’s in a good spot in the meta, too, this is when she really stomps a ton of lobbies.
  • She has great catch potential and high DPS, and she’s one of the best supports in the game to outplay several enemies at a time alongside her AD Carry, so if you like 2v3’ing when you get ganked? Give Zyra a go!

Top – Jax

  • Jax has had a pretty consistent season so far in general, and at those top ranks, he’s still just as strong as ever.
  • Jax always has a way to overcome any kind of matchup, and in games where he gets ahead a little bit earlier than usual, he becomes impossible to deal with.
  • He’s a splitpushing solo bolo beast, and if you know how to push this champion to his limits, you can win even the most unwinnable games.

Jungle – Nidalee

  • Nidalee remains one of the most powerful solo carry junglers to pick in high elo, with the best players knowing just how OP she can be in the right hands.
  • She is all about snowballing the early game with aggressive ganks and invades, and once she’s got a lead under her belt she can dive around the map, one shotting squishies with those spears and huge cougar bites too.

Mid – Qiyana

  • Qiyana is a notorious high elo mid lane machine and in the right hands there’s not many champions with a skill ceiling as high as she has!
  • She is very difficult to play and to master, because, not only does she have difficult combos and mechanics, but she also has a ton of difficult matchups to overcome to make her viable.
  • Right now though, Qiyana is looking incredibly strong with amazing item options to play around with and she’s maintaining a super high win rate in Master+.

Bottom – Kai’Sa

  • Kai’Sa is slowly but surely rising back into those top tiers and already recently at higher ranks her playrate has shot through the roof.
  • You can build her On-hit attack speed and kite your way through teams, you can build her Eclipse into full AP and burst enemies down in seconds, or you can go for all sorts of combinations and mixes between the two, but whichever way you build her, she’s an amazing carry to play this patch, if you’ve got what it takes!

Support – Pyke

  • Pyke received some buffs a few patches ago and since then he’s been one of the best OTP support picks to play, to carry with, and to climb with!
  • He has a unique playstyle compared to most other supports because he needs to pick his moments perfectly to dive in and execute enemies, but if you can play him well enough, he’s one of the most rewarding picks in the game, so get practising!

Disclaimer #1: If a champion isn’t on our LoL Tier List, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.
Disclaimer #2: This list is meant to evaluate the champions that we believe are best for climbing Solo Queue. Although there can certainly be some overlap, we are NOT looking to name the champions that are the best in pro-play or organized, competitive 5-on-5. This is why champs that require a ton of team coordination such as Ryze, may not be included or ranked highly.

As always, we welcome all discussion and feedback.
